Mt Matabian, East Timor (Dive Timor Lorosae)

For our resort-based East Timor trips you will stay at Dive Timor Lorosae, a PADI 5* dive centre with very comfortable accommodation, based in East Timor's modest capital, Dili. From here you will venture out by boat to Atauro Island where deep wall dives abound with big fish life. The journey to the Atauro itself is often a highlight with regular encounters with pods of Dolphins and Pilot Whales. From our Dili base you will also experience some of East Timor's greatest shore dives, including Tasi Tolu and Pertamina Pier. Tasi Tolu and Pertamina Pier are great critter dives where you can find Rhinopias Scorpionfish, Thorny Seahorse, an assortment of Frogfish, Nudibranch galore and an abundance of Morays. You will also venture to shore dives further away from Dili where you will travel by modern 4WD vehicles passing by stunning costal scenery and local villages.
For those wishing to extend their trip we provide the option to take a 4WD safari to Jaco Island in the far East of Timor. This safari will stop along the way at some of the most beautiful and deserted beaches you can imagine, with diving at legendary sites such as K41. Your final destination will be the lost world of Tutuala Beach and Jaco Island, where deep wall dives promise to be some of the best of your life. There are year round departures dates for this land-based adventure but the best time of year to visit is July-December. Resort Details >>>

Getting to East Timor
To reach East Timor there are convenient connections via Singapore or Bali, so there is plenty of opportunity to combine your trip with some world-class diving in Indonesia or alternatively some shopping in Singapore. Either way Equator Diving will help you make the most of your journey to this incredible destination and we have no doubt that you will return home with stories and memories that will stay with you forever.
Once you've finished diving...
East Timor is not only beautiful below the waves - it is also a land of spectacular mountains, including Mt Matabian (2315m) and Mt Ramelau (2963m). The most accessible mountain to trekkers is Mt Ramelau, which is reached by a scenic drive to Hatu Builiko village at the base of the mountain. From there you take a 3 hour trek to the summit for spectacular views of East Timor and to watch the setting sun. You can then camp overnight allowing you to witness an equally spectacular sunrise! We will happily arrange this tour for you as part of your East Timor holiday.
