The Forgotten Islands represent the final frontier for diving in Indonesia. Officially known as the Southeast Moluccas (Maluku Tenggara), they form a 1,000 km long chain starting in Timor and extending all the way to Papua. The Forgotten Islands are very remote and include islands such as Wetar, Nyata, Amortaun in the Sermata Islands, Babar Islands, Damar Islands, Nil Desperandum (famed for Hammerheads), Manuk (home to hundreds of Sea Snakes), Tanimbar Islands, and the Kei Islands. Many liveaboard trips to the Forgotten Islands start in Maumere on the beautiful island of Flores from where they head east, first to the spectacular Komba Volcano that erupts every 10 minutes, then on to the famed dive spots of Alor, through the heart of the Forgotten Islands, and finishing either at Saumlaki in the Tanimbar Islands or Tual in the Kei Islands.
